This trip is an excellent combination of mountain biking and trekking for 4 days, which will take us from the Imperial City of Cusco to the Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, through small villages and Incan archaeological sites. We will start from a pass at over 4000 meters above sea level for a 4-hour mountain bike ride through the heart of the cloud forest, through beautiful mountain and rainforest landscapes. The following days we will have the opportunity to hike through mountains and valleys, we will pass by small villages and their coca plantations, fruits and vegetables, and of course, coffee from these tropical valleys. We will enjoy the view of the famous Inca Trail and the Urubamba River, sacred river of the Incas. We will finally arrive in the small town of Aguas Calientes from where we will enter Machu Picchu.
We meet at your hotel at 6.30am. We will leave the city aboard our private vehicle, between the hills that border Cusco, passing through Chinchero. Ancient Inca fortress, with intact architecture, it overlooks the Sacred Valley of the Incas, to Ollantaytambo.
From there, we will go up to the Abra Malaga (pass located 4400 meters above sea level) where we will arrive around 10am. This is the starting point of our ATV adventure (except in case of bad weather, we will advance to the next starting point). We will begin the descent of 3 or 4 hours in the middle of the forest, to join the hot valleys of the Basin of the Amazon, crossing picturesque villages.
We have lunch on the road. Also we will have the chance to observe the local flora and visit the archaeological site of Waman Marca ("the falcon site" in Quechua). We will arrive at Maranura (1110m) where we will have dinner and spend the night at a family of the village (10 minutes from Santa Maria). The afternoon will be a moment of exchange with the family, who will teach you how to harvest coffee and coca, depending on the season. If you wish you will have time for optional activities.
